Ice Skating in Singapore: A Cool Adventure in the Tropics

Weiling GBy Weiling GMay 4, 2024Updated:December 25, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

Singapore, known for its tropical climate, may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of ice skating. However, the city-state has embraced this winter sport with enthusiasm, offering several rinks where locals and visitors can glide on ice. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced skater, ice skating in Singapore provides a refreshing escape from the city’s heat.

Where to Ice Skate in Singapore

  • The Rink at JCube (Permanently closed unfortunately): Located in Jurong East, The Rink is Singapore’s first and only Olympic-size ice skating rink. It hosts a range of activities, from public skating sessions to figure skating and ice hockey classes. The rink also features a gallery for spectators, making it a popular venue for competitions and events.
  • Kallang Ice World: Situated in Kallang Leisure Park, this rink offers a more intimate skating experience. It’s known for its vibrant disco-themed public skating sessions, complete with music and lights. Kallang Ice World also provides lessons for those looking to improve their skating skills.

Address:

Unit No. #03-10, Leisure Park Kallang
5 Stadium Walk, Level 3, Singapore 397693

Tel: +65 6348-1123

  • Hi Roller Indoor Skating Rink: While not a traditional ice skating rink, Hi Roller offers an alternative with its indoor roller skating facility. Located in Pasir Ris, it’s a great option for those who enjoy skating but prefer wheels over blades.

Address:

1 Pasir Ris Close, E!Hub @ Downtown East, #05-103, S519599

Tips for Ice Skating in Singapore

  • Dress Appropriately: Although Singapore is warm, the ice rinks are kept at a chilly temperature. Wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and socks to stay warm. Gloves and a jacket are also recommended.
  • Rent or Bring Skates: If you don’t own a pair of ice skates, you can rent them at the rinks. Make sure they fit snugly to provide proper ankle support.
  • Start Slow: If you’re new to ice skating, begin by holding onto the side railing to find your balance. Gradually venture out as you become more comfortable.
  • Take Lessons: Most rinks offer lessons for beginners and those looking to improve their skills. Consider signing up for a class to learn the basics and ensure a safer experience.
  • Be reminded that, you can’t book ticket for Kallang Ice World. You have to go in person, and queue up for ticket purchase. Be mindful of ice cleaning timings.

Ice Skating for All Ages
Ice skating in Singapore is a fun activity for people of all ages. It’s not only a great way to stay active but also an opportunity to experience a touch of winter in a tropical setting. Whether you’re looking for a family outing, a date idea, or a solo adventure, hitting the ice rink is sure to provide a memorable experience.

Ice skating in Singapore is a testament to the city’s diverse recreational offerings. It’s a unique way to beat the heat and enjoy some wintertime fun, all year round. So, when you want to enjoy a COOL day with your kids, do consider lacing up some skates and gliding into a cool, icy adventure!
